Basilica joins HNTB’s Baton Rouge offi ce as VP, program director


Maj. Gen. John Basilica, Jr.,

Maj. Gen. John Basilica Jr. recently joined HNTB Corp.’s Central Division as vice president and program director in the Baton Rouge, La., office. He brings more than 30 years of experience in state and federal government service.In his new role, Basilica will be responsible for the operation of multiple, complex projects. As HNTB wins additional program management contracts, Basilica will work closely with leadership as well as all business units to deliver programs that meet client expectations. “HNTB is excited to have Maj. Gen. Basilica join the firm,” said Tom O’Grady, HNTB Central Division president. “His diverse experience and focus on leadership in all of his roles will be a great addition to the strong HNTB team in Louisiana. He will be key to helping us further grow our ability to serve the Louisiana Department of Transportation, East Baton Rouge Parish, the Office of Coastal Protection and Restoration and other key clients.” Before joining HNTB, Basilica held various executive level positions with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development including chief of staff, undersecretary and interim secretary. In these roles, he provided leadership and direction to department staff and was intimately involved in most large projects and programs.In addition, Basilica is a decorated officer with more than 31 years of military experience, including a combat tour as commander of Louisiana’s 4,500-solider Brigade Combat Team in Baghdad in 2004 and 2005. Upon his return from Iraq, he was immediately placed in command of 24,000 National Guard soldiers and was responsible for all response and recovery following hurricanes Katrina and Rita.Basilica received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and a master’s degree in construction engineering and management from the University of Maryland. The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Greater Birmingham Chapter recently announced that one of its members, Astyn Richard of Drift Collective, was recognized as the First Place winner of “A Day in the Life of a Woman in Construction.” This national award was featured in the August/September issue of The NAWIC Image which is a nationally distributed magazine.NAWIC, an international non-profit organization, has grown to a membership of over 5,000 women with more than 179 chapters. In its 51 years of service to its members, NAWIC has advanced the causes of all women in construction whose careers range from business ownership to the skilled trades. With almost 900,000 women working in construction today, the industry is becoming more accepting of their non-traditional roles.

Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood Inc. of Montgomery, Ala., has announced that Mathis Sneed achieved Landscape Architecture Registration Examination (LARE) professional licensure and Nathan Tomberlin earned Professional Engineering Registration (PE).Sneed has more than five years experience in landscape architecture working in development and site planning projects. He graduated from Mississippi State University with a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture. Tomberlin is a civil engineer with more than five years experience in stormwater and wastewater infrastructure and roadway improvements. Dale and Associates Architects P.A. of Jackson, Miss., recently announced that Robert Kelly and Brad Jeffries have joined its Jackson office. Kelly brings more than 38 years of architectural experience to the firm. He received his bachelor degree in architecture from Auburn University. His previous experience includes corporate, educational, hotel/hospitality, medical, institutional and retail facilities. Jeffries joins the firm as an intern architect. He graduated from Mississippi State University in May with a bachelor’s degree in architecture.

The Mid-Tennessee Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors Inc. recently announced the addition of Ryan Peebles as its new chapter president. Peebles is a graduate from the University of Southern Mississippi and has a strong background in public and government affairs. He has more than six years experience in the U.S. Senate, where he most currently served as senior advisor on the leadership team for Republican Whip Jon Kyl of Arizona and previously in the same position for U.S. Republican Trent Lott. Peebles worked as a lobbyist and public affairs specialist on the executive team for two leading business trade associations, familiarizing himself with the intricate details of working with membership-based associations. He also spent five years working with the National Federation of Independent Business, where he managed one of the largest business coalitions in Washington, D. C. The ABC Mid-Tennessee Chapter is one of the leading commercial construction trade association in the middle Tennessee area.
