Alabama
Gallet & Associates Inc. of Birmingham, Ala., recently announced that Albert Hartley Jr. has joined the Gallet team. Hartley has 13 years experience in geotechnical and structural arenas, which has given him a working knowledge of issues in deep foundation testing and analysis, bridge design, construction and mitigation.
Hartley’s design and construction experience include design and analysis of proposed and existing concrete and steel structures, and design and rehabilitation of fixed bridge projects.
Gallet & Associates also announced that Frank Whitman of the North Alabama Operations has been elected vice president of Zone 2 of ACEC of Alabama and that Heather Turner has joined the firm as Environmental Engineer II in the Birmingham, Alabama office.
She recently graduated from the University of Alabama.
Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood’s Birmingham, Ala., office recently expanded its Landscape Architecture Division by recruiting landscape architect Jane Reed Ross, multiple ASLA award recipient who recently returned from a year exploring sustainable design issues in Australia.
A landscape architecture graduate of Auburn University, Ross possesses more than 25 years of expertise with a background in community planning, educational and religious facilities, recreational parks and zoos, as well as residential developments.
Also joining the Landscape Architecture Division is Guy Reynolds, who brings more than 15 years of experience, more than five years in landscape architectural design and 10 years in landscape installation and field management. In Florida and Alabama, Reynolds has collaborated in designing and installing recreational facilities, healthcare, commercial, educational and residential developments, as well as conducted resort planning. He has a landscape architecture degree from Auburn University.
Based in Montgomery, Ala., Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood also has Alabama offices in Mobile, Huntsville, Vernon and Andalusia, as well as in Florida, Tennessee and South Carolina with more than 300 employees.
Gate Construction Materials Group, with South Central offices in Monroeville, Ala., and Ashland City, Tenn., has promoted Dean Gwin to president and chief operating officer of Gate Construction Materials Group.
Gwin will be responsible for all phases of the construction group, which consists of six architectural precast and two structural precast manufacturing facilities.
Joe Luke, a 30-year Gate veteran, will step down as COO and serve as a Gate Petroleum board member, as well as chairman of the board for Gate Construction Materials Group.
Earl Shimp, former president of operations of Gate Concrete Products Co. in Jacksonville, Fla., will assume the position of senior vice president of operations for Gate Construction Materials Group. Shimp will be responsible for plant and field operations.
Hagen Lambert will assume the role of senior vice president at Gate Concrete Products Co. in Jacksonville and will be responsible for all operations at this location. Lambert will also oversee a major expansion at the plant and the implementation of carbon reinforcement in double tees.
M. J. Harris Inc. of Birmingham, Ala., recently announced the promotions of the following employees: Robert Young – chief operating officer, Robbie Egan – chief financial officer, Robert Lambe – senior vice president of employee relations, Roy Holland – vice president of preconstruction services, Jeff Davis – superintendent, Jeff Hendricks – assistant project manager and Ryan Speegle – assistant controller.
LBYD Inc., a consulting civil and structural engineering firm with offices in Birmingham, Ala., and Atlanta, Ga., has recently announced the promotion of Chris Lieb, Curtis Walker and Jon Chesnut as project engineers of the firm.
Lieb is a graduate of Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
Walker is a graduate of Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
Chesnut is a graduate of The University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
Louisiana
The Louisiana Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors Inc. recently announced that John Walters has been named director of governmental relations. Walters is a native of Baton Rouge and a graduate of Louisiana State University. Prior to joining ABC, Walters spent 10 years as a Louisiana Legislative staff member.
Mississippi
Dale and Associates Architects P.A. recently announced that Julie Markle has received her certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for New Construction. Markle received her bachelor’s degree in architecture in 2005 from Mississippi State University. She is an intern architect for the firm and an allied member of the American Institute of Architects.
Dale and Associates also announced the following employees have joined their firm: Donald Bataille joins as specifications and quality control manager and brings more than 35 years of experience to the position. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in architecture. Michael Rose also joins as a student intern while in pursuit of his bachelor’s degree in architecture from Mississippi State University. His anticipated graduation date from MSU is 2010.
Tennessee
Bell & Associates recently announced the hiring of Jerry Roberts as vice president of commercial building. Roberts comes to Bell from Nashville contractor TW Frierson, where he spent 12 years of his 25-year career.’’’
Roberts will use his skills in the commercial building industry to take over operations that were previously under Bell veteran Randy Brent.
Roberts holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Vanderbilt University.
Bell & Associates Construction also hired Ron Qualls as its new senior estimator. Qualls brings more than 30 years of experience to Bell Construction with experience in MC2 estimating software, Timberline estimating software and On Screen takeoff software.
He is a member of the American Society of Professional Estimators.
