Alabama
David H. Shea has joined Superior Mechanical Inc. as its controller. After a lengthy search conducted with the help of several search firms, Shea was selected for his “chemistry, character and competence,” according to Superior President Richard H. Drennen.
Prior to joining Superior, Shea was most recently a regional director for United Healthcare’s Medicare Division, Ovations. He was previously with Touche Ross, Reading & Bates, MedPartners and GuideStar Health Systems, among others.
A native of Bartlesville, Okla., Shea is a 1973 graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He later earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Tulsa and is a non-practicing certified public accountant.
“David will work well with our clients, our vendors and our staff,” Drennen said. “He has great relational skills, is very gifted professionally and will bring significant depth to Superior’s growing leadership.”
Headquartered in Birmingham, Superior Mechanical is a 24-year-old commercial plumbing contractor with an emphasis on large, complicated (i.e. healthcare) construction.
The Alabama Chapter of the Associated Builders & Contractors held its annual recognition program at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center on Nov. 3. The annual program recognizes outstanding contributions to excellence in the construction industry.
The organization each year recognizes one individual who has made an exemplary life long commitment to Alabama construction and has brought favorable recognition to the industry as a result of their personal integrity, business ethics and community involvement.
The 2006 Cornerstone Award was presented to Gary C. Wyatt, president and chief executive officer of Gary C. Wyatt General Contractor LLC. Wyatt is a graduate of the School of Architecture, Building Science. His company was founded in 1976 and specializes in commercial building in the Southeast.
Wyatt has also been recognized as Small Business Person of the Year by the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, Employer of the Year by the National Association of Women in Construction and General Contractor of the Year.
Wyatt serves as a trustee on the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army Executive Advisory Board of Directors, Executive Council for the Greater Alabama Council for Boy Scouts of America, Alabama Veterans Memorial Foundation, past president of Hoover Schools Foundation, president of the executive board for Ashton Gables Alzheimer’s Unit, Samford University School of Business Advisory Board and the City of Hoover Zoning and Building Appeals Board.
Founded in 1976, Gary C. Wyatt General Contractor has grown to more than $155 million in annual volume and conducts business is 16 states. The contractor specializes in construction of churches, schools, theaters, condominiums and other commercial entities.
Arkansas
The Flintco Companies Inc., a commercial construction company, has appointed C. Darryl Harris Sr. as area manager of its Arkansas division.
“Darryl has been in construction for 32 years,” said Ron Petty, division president of The Flintco Cos. “He is very knowledgeable about construction in Arkansas, including the area conditions, the subcontractor community and construction delivery systems. We look forward to having someone with his knowledge and experience oversee the growth of our work throughout Arkansas.”
Originally from Biloxi, Miss., Harris joined the company in 1995. A 20-year resident of Arkansas, Harris ran his first job at 19 as he started out as a project engineer/superintendent. Prior to being named Arkansas area manager, Harris was serving as construction manager on a $94 million Federal Bureau of Prison project in Pollock, La.
He has worked in management, construction supervision and overall company operations for Flintco and other leading construction companies.
Flintco opened its Springdale office in 1992 to better serve existing clients in the Northwest Arkansas market.
Since that time, the Springdale office has built more than 1.3 million sq. ft. of schools, assisted living facilities, churches, restaurants, parks and government facilities, including postal offices, fire stations and police headquarters.
East-Harding Inc. of Little Rock, Ark., recently announced the following appointments.
Nathan Kerr, project superintendent, relocated from Durango, Colo. Nathan has 20 years in construction, including AGC Project of the Year Award for Colorado.
His first assignment is the Camp Aldersgate addition, made possible by a Donald W. Reynolds Foundation grant.
Kirk Gober joined East-Harding in August as office engineer. He is a 2005 graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s construction management program and a native of El Dorado.
Patrick Murray has also recently joined East-Harding. Murray recently completed his master’s degree in construction management from the University of Florida after earning his bachelor’s degree in business from UALR.
Louisiana
Arrighi Simoneaux, a Baton Rouge-based commercial construction company, has hired Donnie Lacombe as senior project manager. In his role, Lacombe will be responsible for project management and estimation of commercial construction jobs for the firm.
He previously worked as senior project manager for The McDonald Group, a Metairie-based construction company. He has 25 years of experience in the construction industry.
Arrighi Simoneaux LLC was founded in 2002 and is a subsidiary of Group Industries LLC, an industrial and commercial construction company headquartered in Baton Rouge. Arrighi Simoneaux provides construction services for public and private commercial projects and has experience in renovations, health care facilities, commercial buildings, and tenant build-outs and sports facilities.
Mississippi
Emily J. Roberts ASID and Cristi Rowland Wolfe, ASID Allied Member, both interior designers with Guild Hardy Architects of Biloxi, Miss., recently received Gold, Silver and Bronze awards from the South Central Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers 2006 Design Awards Competition.
With projects submitted from Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi, the South Central Chapter awarded the Gold to Roberts and Wolfe for their work on the new Biloxi office of Guild Hardy Architects in the category of Corporate Contract Design. Roberts received the Silver Award for her work on Gorenflo Elementary School in Biloxi and the Bronze Award for nearby Nichols Elementary School in the category of Corporate Institutional Design.
The South Central Chapter of ASID is comprised of eight districts. The chapter is part of the American Society of Interior Designers.
Tennessee
The Nashville-based architectural and engineering firm of Hart Freeland Roberts Inc. (HFR) has announced that civil engineer Chad Bobrowski, currently an engineer-in-training, has joined the firm as a transportation project manager in HFR’s Civil Engineering Department. He will concentrate primarily in site work and transportation engineering.
Previously employed by Davis & Floyd Inc., Bobrowski also has roadway design experience with the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the South Carolina Department of Transportation. As a college student, he worked in a co-op program with a general contracting firm, acquiring estimating and project management experience.
A Brentwood native, Bobrowski is a 1998 graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. In 2001, he was awarded a master’s degree in engineering management by the University of Technology Sydney in Sydney, Australia, and a year later received his MBA from the same institution.
