Alabama
White-Spunner Construction Inc. of Mobile, Ala., recently
announced the following new employees:
Wayne Mostellar, senior project manager, has a bachelor's
degree in building construction from Auburn University and
24 years of experience managing commercial and industrial
projects. He works in the division of White-Spunner that handles
contracts to build Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores nationwide.
He is a certified professional constructor, past president
and current board member of the Mobile Section of the Associated
General Contractors of America, a board member of the Association
of General Contractors and a member of the American Institute
of Constructors.
Allan Gustin, senior project manager, has a bachelor's degree
in construction engineering technology from the University
of Southern Mississippi and extensive experience in estimating,
scheduling and project management for many commercial projects
including the Ladd Stadium renovation, several multi-million
dollar condominium projects, schools and churches.
He works in the division of White-Spunner that handles contracts
to build retail, multi-family and healthcare facilities, with
his current focus on Academy Sports and Home Depot stores
nationwide. He is past president of the Associated Builders
and Contractors for the Mid Gulf Chapter, is president of
the Oakleigh Garden District Society and board member for
the Historic Mobile Preservation Society.
White-Spunner Construction has branch offices in Orange Beach,
Ala; Dallas, Texas, and Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
Jack Darnall IV, a vice president/healthcare division manager
for Brasfield & Gorrie of Birmingham, Ala., was recently
sworn in as Associated Builders and Contractors' (ABC) 2006
national chairman.
The ceremony occurred during the opening general session
of ABC's 2006 national convention in Las Vegas. Darnall began
his term as ABC national chairman in January.
"Jack's dedication to ABC and to the principles of open
competition and free enterprise is unparalleled," said
Kirk Pickerel, ABC president and CEO. "For many years,
Jack has served as a distinguished leader of ABC, both at
the national and at the chapter levels."
In addition to his more than 20 years of construction industry
experience, Darnall has served his industry for more than
a decade through his ABC involvement in a variety of roles.
Previously, Darnall was ABC's Region 4 vice chairman, representing
Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South
Carolina and Tennessee. He has also served as national treasurer
and has been on the national board of directors since 1995.
Darnall served as president of ABC's Alabama Chapter in 1995
and is a board member of the Shades Valley YMCA of Birmingham.
He has a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the Georgia
Institute of Technology.
As 2006 ABC National Chairman, Darnall leads ABC's national
executive committee and board of directors, guides the national
initiatives of the association and serves as its spokesperson.
Robert C. Moore, also with Brasfield & Gorrie, was sworn
in as Region Four vice chairman at the convention.
Gallet & Associates Inc. of Birmingham, Ala., recently
announced that Chris Leathers, Tad Nelson, Jeff Allen, Justin
Johnson, Les Brown and Chip Davis attended the 2006 EduCode
International Conference. The EduCode Conference offers highly
specialized courses for building inspectors, plan reviewers,
building officials and fire officials.
Gallet & Associates also announced the promotion of Randall
D. Strevy to the position of staff scientist. Strevy earned
a bachelor's degree in biology from Samford University in
May 2001 and a master's degree in environmental management
from Samford University in December 2002. He has been with
Gallet & Associates for four years.
In addition, Consuela Finnen has joined the firm as human
resource director. She has worked in human resources for five
years, most recently as the human resource's manager of a
staffing firm in Birmingham.
Finnen is a graduate of American Intercontinental University
with a degree in business administration and will be obtaining
her master's degree in the near future. She will be dedicated
to defining and applying Gallet & Associates' human resources
policy, employees' personnel development, preparation and
staff training as well as the internal communication regarding
human resources.
Arkansas
Brent Farmer was recently promoted to director of operations
for Flintco of Little Rock, Ark.
Michael Parker was named pre-construction services manager
at Nabholz Construction Corp. of Conway.
Louisiana
Hartley Duncan, NACE Certified Coatings Inspector, has joined
The Bayou Cos. of New Iberia, La., as a consultant for special
projects and coatings. Duncan brings more than thirty years
of experience in the coatings and linings industry to his
new position.
His expertise includes directing and working on jobs from
the right of way, to the shop, to fabrication, as well as
direction of many failure analysis projects.
Additionally, Duncan was an instructor for the NACE Coating
Inspector Program and is currently a PCCP Technical Auditor
for the USA and Canada for the SSPC (Society for Protective
Coatings). Hartley is currently serving as vice chairman of
the CEAC Committee of NACE International.
Rachelle Albright has been named vice president of project
management of F. H. Myers Construction Corp. of Harahan.
Albright has been employed with the firm since September
1996. During this period, she served as project manager/estimator
on numerous major construction projects in our community.
She recently managed the successful completion of renovations
for Academy of the Sacred Heart.
This project was a $6 million conversion of the old First
Baptist Church facility on Napoleon Avenue in New Orleans,
La. After receiving her bachelor's degree in civil engineering
from Louisiana State University in 1995 she was employed by
Schlumberger Dowell as a field engineer. Albright also recently
accepted the position of chairman of the Associated Builders
and Contractors' Bayou Chapter.
F. H. Myers Construction Corp. has also announced the promotion
of Ryan P. Myers to chief estimator.
Since 1998, Myers has functioned as project manager/estimator
with our firm. During his employment, he successfully completed
several high profile projects, such as the new Metairie Small
Animal Hospital. In Elmwood Shopping Center, Myers completed
the conversion of the former Michael Hebert Furniture store
and warehouse into Elmwood Self Storage and retail complex
and, Pier One.
Additionally, he completed the $3.5 million Schlumberger
Subsea Test Facility in Houma, La.
Louisiana Workers' Compensation Corporation (LWCC), a private,
nonprofit mutual insurance company that covers more than one-third
of Louisiana's workers' compensation insurance market, recently
announced that CEO Steve Cavanaugh tendered his resignation.
Kristin Wall, president and chief operating officer, was
named by the Board of Directors to replace Cavanaugh as CEO.
"We are extremely pleased that Steve has an opportunity
to take on a new role with a Dallas-based national insurance
services firm as it develops a new product from the ground
up," said Aubrey Temple, chairman of the board. "As
with LWCC, Steve will be using his vision and entrepreneurial
spirit to launch a new enterprise."
Wall has been chief operating officer for six years and was
promoted to president in 2004. Following her appointment to
president of the corporation and under her direction, LWCC
received Ward's designation as a Top 50 Property & Casualty
insurance company in the nation, returned more than $25 million
back to its policyholders over the past two years and has
increased the company's profitability substantially.
"She has run the day-to-day operations brilliantly and
as CEO will continue to do so for the benefit of Louisiana
employers," added Temple.
Elba Alicia Urbina Hamilton, a civil engineer from Bossier,
La., was recently nominated for the American Society of Civil
Engineers' (ASCE) New Faces of Civil Engineering program.
An integral part of ASCE's 2006 Engineers Week in February,
the program promotes the achievements of young engineers by
highlighting their engineering contributions and impact on
society.
Hamilton is currently employed with Aillet, Fenner, Jolly
& McClelland Inc. of Shreveport, La. Previously, she has
served as the lead researcher for a national project conducted
by the Louisiana State University Hurricane Center and has
performed a national review of evacuation plans and practices.
Hamilton's research has been used as the foundation for continued
research in hurricane evacuation areas of the U.S., Puerto
Rico and Hawaii.
Hamilton earned bachelor's and master's degrees in civil
engineering from Louisiana State University.
ASCE's nominees were also submitted to the national New Faces
of Engineering program run by the Engineers Week Foundation.
The national program includes representatives from the civil,
mechanical, electrical, chemical, industrial and manufacturing
engineering professions. Selected New Faces profiles will
be featured in a USA Today ad during Engineers Week and will
be profiled on the National Engineers Week Web site at www.eweek.org
and www.discoverengineering.org.
Tennessee
D.F. Chase Inc. Construction of Nashville, Tenn., recently
announced the addition of two new employees: Billy Gatlin
was hired as a project engineer and Janet Marshall was hired
with Chase Design-Build as a project engineer.
Pat Oakley has been promoted to national sales manager for
Mullican Flooring of Johnson City, Tenn.
In his new position, Oakley will supervise regional managers,
oversee national sales goals and establish relationships with
key retailers, builders and distribution partners. Oakley
has more than 18 years of sales management and product marketing
experience in the surface covering and flooring industry,
including five years as regional sales manager for Mullican
Flooring.
"Pat's sales experience and knowledge of our company
and the hardwood flooring industry will be a tremendous boost
to Mullican as we look to expand our presence throughout the
U.S.," said Brian Greenwell, Mullican's vice president
of sales and marketing.
"This is a great opportunity for me to take my career
path to the next level with a solid organization," Oakley
said.
Mullican Flooring is a manufacturer of unfinished solid hardwood
flooring. The company has facilities in five states, including
plants in Norton, Va., Holland, N.Y., Bowling Green, Ky.,
Ronceverte, W.Va., and Johnson City.
New board members were recently elected during the annual
business meeting at the 2006 Concrete Sawing and Drilling
Association Convention.
Returning as a board member is Ron Dailey, True-Line Coring
& Cutting of Nashville, Tenn.
