Arkansas
Ron Lazenby has joined May Construction Co. of Little Rock,
Ark., as senior project manager. Harlon "Buddy"
Suttle has been hired as chief estimator. Aaron Gaylor has
joined the Multifamily Division as chief estimator.
John Zieba and John Shaw McMahon have joined the company
as site managers. Leah Peterson has been promoted to marketing
manager.
The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association recently elected
and installed its new officers and Executive Committee members
at the 2005 Fall Meeting of the ARMA Board of Directors in
Napa, Calif.
Steve A. Ratcliff, president and CEO of Tarco in Little Rock,
Ark., was re-elected to the ARMA Executive Committee, and
Tim Kersey of Siplast Inc. in Arkadelphia, Ark., was elected
chairman of the Low-Slope Roofing Committee.
ARMA's new president is Robert B. Tafaro, chief operating
officer of GAF Materials Corporation in Wayne, N.J. Tafaro's
term ends November 2007.
"I am very proud to serve ARMA during what I am sure
will be a very interesting time in our industry," Tafaro
said. "My goal is to look behind in two years at an association
made more responsive, proactive and inclusive."
The ARMA is the North American trade association representing
the manufacturers and suppliers of bituminous-base residential
and commercial fiberglass and organic asphalt shingle roofing
products, roll roofing, built-up roofing systems and modified
bitumen-roofing systems.
Louisiana
The National Safety Council recently elected John R. Scott,
vice president of the Shaw Group Inc. in Baton Rouge, La.,
to its Board of Delegates. The election took place during
the National Safety Council's recent annual meeting held in
conjunction with its 93rd Annual Congress and Expo in Orlando,
Fla.
"John Scott is among our nation's top leaders in safety
and health and we are delighted to welcome him to the Board
of Delegates," said NSC President and CEO Alan C. McMillan.
"His vast professional experience and commitment to safety
excellence will strengthen the board as it directs the council's
future safety and health policies."
As vice president of Environmental Health and Safety, Scott's
role is to work with the business leadership and EH&S
teams to centralize and improve the EH&S functions for
the entire company.
Having held a variety of business and operational assignments
in a 30-year career with DuPont, Scott established a record
of proven ability to deliver results across multiple industries
and disciplines. He is a recipient of the DuPont Marketing
Excellence Award, was presented the Key to the City of Memphis,
and awarded special commendation for the Memphis Chemical
Club for Outstanding Achievement in the Mid South for work
on the Regional Hazardous Materials Advisory Team.
Scott is also the recipient of the Bronze Star for heroism
in combat in Vietnam.
Scott holds a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University
in Nashville, Tenn., and holds a master's degree from the
University of Southern California.
Baton Rouge architect Victor F. "Trey" Trahan was
honored in London recently as one of three emerging architects
chosen from throughout the world by Architecture Review magazine.
The Architecture Review Awards for Emerging Architecture
2005 were presented to architects and designers from across
the world at the Royal Institute of British Architects in
London.
An international jury considered hundreds of entries to find
three award winners, seven high commendations, six commended
schemes and eight honorable mentions. Submissions from more
than 50 countries were presented to the jury, varying from
furniture to landscape projects, churches to cocoons and tiny
pavilions to dramatic transformations of large existing buildings.
Mississippi
Harry James with the Mississippi Dept. of Transportation
was recently named the engineer of the year by the Mississippi
Engineering Society.
James has been the deputy executive director/chief engineer
at MDOT since 2003. He began working at the department as
a designer in the bridge division, then soon became involved
in the design, construction and maintenance of bridges statewide.
James is a native of Madison County and is heavily involved
with First Presbyterian Church in Canton, where he is a deacon
and an elder. He also serves as board president of the First
Presbyterian Kindergarten.
Tennessee
Allan Maki recently joined Mullican Flooring's Information
Technology Department as an IT analyst. Maki's office is located
at the company's headquarters in Johnson City, Tenn.
Maki has 15 years of IT experience, including his most recent
position as a consultant to Eastman Chemical Co. in Kingsport,
Tenn. In his new position, Maki will be facilitating the accounting
department's procedures and policies by creating reports and
supporting the IT infrastructure.
"Allan's wealth of knowledge and experience in the information
technology sector makes him a key player in our company's
operations," said Brian Greenwell, Mullican's vice president
of sales and marketing. "We are confident in Allan's
abilities and we are proud to have him join our organization."
A graduate of East Tennessee State University in Johnson
City, Maki holds a bachelor's degree in business administration
and a master's degree in computer science.
Jerry Stauffer has been elected to serve as president and
chief operating officer of the board of directors at Baker,
Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz in Memphis, Tenn.
Region
RSC Equipment Rental has appointed two executives to new
positions as regional vice presidents over the company's Southern
and Great Lakes regions. Combined, the two leaders have more
than 30 years of industry experience.
Brent Kuchynka, currently regional vice president of RSC's
Canada Region, will be the new regional vice president for
the Southern Region, which includes the Texas Gulf Coast area,
Louisiana and Mississippi.
Jon Wacker, a district manager for RSC in Tampa, Fla., is
the new regional vice president for the Great Lakes Region.
His new region includes Tennessee, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois,
Indiana, Western Ohio, and most of Kentucky.
"Both Brent and Jon bring a tremendous amount of industry
knowledge, management expertise and proven success to their
new positions," said Tom Zorn, president and chief executive
officer of RSC Equipment Rental.
For the past three years, Kuchynka has led RSC's operations
in Canada and successfully shifted the region's focus to emphasize
large industrial accounts in order to offset the significant
winter downturn in the construction industry. Kuchynka joined
RSC as part of the company's acquisition of Arizona-based
Valley Rentals in 1996.
He held a range of positions before assuming his position
in Canada in 2002.
Wacker has been with RSC since 1996 and has held a range
of positions, including general manager, area manager, district
sales manager and district operations manager. Prior to joining
RSC, he owned and operated an equipment rental and sales business.
