Alabama

Randall Wormley recently joined Capstone Building Corp. of Birmingham, Ala., as director of personnel.

Wormley received a bachelor's degree from Faulkner University in Montgomery, Ala. His experience includes a background in human resources, operations and recruiting. He also has experience in the construction industry.

He will be responsible for recruiting and employment compliance operations.

In other news, Rob Wylie successfully completed the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Professional Accreditation Program and received his professional accreditation.

Wylie's coursework included green building design and construction industry knowledge, LEED Rating System Knowledge, LEED Resources & Processes and Green Design Strategies.

Many of the projects that Capstone Building constructs have Green Design and Building Requirements.


Arkansas

Nabholz Construction Corp. of Conway, Ark., recently appointed Greg Fogle as vice president of operations.

He will be responsible for the company's Ozark Division, which is based in Rogers.


Mississippi

The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards recently elected Robert E. Luke of Meridian as second vice president.

Luke is vice president, treasurer and managing partner of Luke & Kaye Architects P. A. of Meridian. He is also president and a charter member of the Mississippi Architectural Foundation.

Horne CPA Group recently appointed Lee D. Murphy CPA to its shareholder ranks. Murphy is based in the firm's Grenada, Miss., office.

Murphy is a graduate of Delta State University and a native of Grenada. She joined Horne CPA in 1991 and manages the firm's Grenada and Oxford offices. She is also president of Forward Grenada and the Grenada County Chamber of Commerce.


Tennessee

Pickering Inc. of Memphis recently named Robert J. Pitts as a principal/owner.

Pitts is the company's civil engineering team leader and has more than 23 years of experience. He has a master's degree in technical/program management from John Hopkins University.

Pickering also named Thomas R. McConnell AIA and Richard Ferguson P.E. as new associate principal owners.

McConnell has more than 15 years of experience as an architect and project manager in a variety of industrial projects, and is a graduate of the University of Tennessee of Knoxville.

Ferguson joined Pickering as a senior bridge engineer in the Mississippi office in 2001. He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi.

Lose & Associates of Nashville recently announced several additions to its staff. The firm is involved in landscape architecture, architecture, engineering and planning.

Mike Plunk is a senior architect and project manager on the firm's architectural staff. Previously, he headed the architectural design team for Shoney's Inc.

Corey Knight, engineer in training, and Nicky Wells, civil engineer, joined the engineering department. Knight assisted in site engineering for the architectural department of Sherlock, Smith and Adams in Montgomery, Ala. Wells has experience in land development.

Emily Houston, Lindsey D. Smith and Josh Ruppert have joined the landscape architecture and land planning division. Houston is a graduate of Virginia Tech, Smith has a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture degree from Mississippi State University and Ruppert is a graduate of Ohio State University.


National

Steel Joist Institute announces the addition of Perry S. Green, Ph.D., as technical director to the organization.

As technical director, Green will be responsible for coordinating the Institute's engineering, research and educational committees. He will also provide engineering assistance to design professionals and give presentations at technical seminars.

Green is an American Institute of Steel Construction grant recipient and has conducted research on extended shear tab connections. He is an active member of the Society for Industrial Archeology and currently serves an elected three-year term on their Board of Directors. Green is also a member and involved in the Structural Stability Research Council, the American Iron and Steel Institute and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Green holds a doctorate in civil engineering from Lehigh University.

Green will assume the role of technical director on October 1, 2004.

Besides setting standards for the steel joist industry, The Steel Joist Institute works closely with major building code bodies throughout the country helping to develop code regulations regarding steel joists and joist girders. The Institute also invests thousands of dollars in ongoing research related to steel joists and joist girders and offers a complete library of publications and other training and research aids. The Steel Joist Institute is a not-for-profit organization.

Two Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) staff executives were recently appointed by U. S. Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans and U. S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick to serve on Industry Trade Advisory Committees.

ITACs are public-private forums established by Congress to ensure industry has a voice in formulating the trade policy of the United States.

Darrin Drollinger, AEM vice president - technical and safety services, has been appointed to the ITAC on Standards and Technical Trade Barriers.

Nick Yaksich, AEM vice president - government affairs, has been appointed to the ITAC on Automotive Equipment and Capital Goods.

Their participation in the ITACs provides a voice for the equipment manufacturing industry in the development of trade policy, standards and regulations and ensures AEM access to top-level U. S. trade officials to relay priorities of the association's member companies.

ITAC members also work with government officials to identify trade barriers and to provide advice on key objectives and bargaining positions for multilateral, bilateral and regional trade negotiations and agreements.
