E. Eean McNaughton recently received the prestigious AIA Louisiana Medal of Honor from the Louisiana Chapter of the American Institute of Architects at its Design Conference Honor Awards Luncheon in Baton Rouge on Sept. 25.

The Medal of Honor is the highest award given by AIA Louisiana in recognition of an individual architect who has significantly advanced the profession of architecture and who, by his leadership, has provided an inspiration to his fellow practitioners.

McNaughton’s accomplishments include significant projects such as Benjamin Franklin High School, First Baptist Church New Orleans, United States Pavilion – 1984 Louisiana World Exposition, Louisiana Nature and Science Center – Phase 1 and Phase II, New Orleans Public Library Master Plan (with MS&R), and the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts in Natchitoches, La.

McNaughton’s work in historic preservation is significant. The restoration and adaptive use of the Old Louisiana State Capitol-Center for Political and Governmental History was recognized with national American Institute of Architects, Institute Honor Award for Architecture in 1999.

Other notable works include the restoration and adaptive use of the Old U.S. Mint in New Orleans for the Louisiana State Museum, and numerous projects in the French Quarter.

McNaughton presently serves on the U.S. Government National Register for Peer Professionals as part of the General Services Administration’s Design Excellence Program. Since 2002 he has served on the Regional Planning Commission as an appointment by the mayor of New Orleans.

ALABAMA

Gate Precast Co., a manufacturer of architectural precast concrete systems, recently added Mo Wright to its sales and marketing staff in Monroeville, Ala.

Hunter Hodges
HODGES

Wright brings with him 15 years in the construction industry. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in human environment sciences.

For the past nine years, he worked in project management and sales management in the precast industry. Wright will be responsible for sales and marketing of architectural precast concrete systems in Alabama and Georgia.

LBYD Inc., a consulting civil and structural engineering firm with offices in Birmingham, Ala.; Atlanta and Huntsville, Ala., recently announced the promotion of Hunter Hodges to assistant project manager.

Hodges is a graduate of Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a graduate of Virginia Tech with a master’s degree in civil engineering.

Currently, he is involved with the structural design of the Main Exchange Replacement at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., and two new facilities at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla.

John Perdue
PERDUE

LBYD also announced that John Perdue has been promoted to project manager.

Perdue is a graduate of The University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. Currently, he is involved with the structural design of the Birmingham International Airport Expansion and Jones Law School Expansion. He is an active member of SEAoAL, AISC and ACI.

LBYD has also announced the promotion of Nicole Donnee Sommerville to project engineer.

Sommerville is a graduate of Auburn University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering.

Currently, she is involved with the structural design of The University of Alabama at Birmingham Wallace Tumor Institute renovations; Marine Corps Reserve Vehicle Maintenance Facility at Naval Weapons Station in Charleston, S.C., and Consolidated Communications Facility at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.

LBYD also announced that Chris Storey has been promoted to project manager.

Storey is a graduate of The University of Alabama at Birmingham with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering. Currently, he is involved with the structural design of the Bryant-Denny Stadium south end-zone expansion; Hueytown High School; The University of Alabama Science and Engineering Complex – Phase Four; and Samford University Track and Soccer Complex.

LBYD also announced the promotion of Brian Hatcher to project manager.

Hatcher is a graduate of The University of Alabama with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering.

He is currently involved with the civil design of Birmingham Southern College Residence Hall; The University of Alabama Men’s Basketball Practice Facility; Samford University Track and Soccer Stadium and The City of Mountain Brook Municipal Complex.

LOUISIANA

Davis Rhorer

Davis Rhorer received the Louisiana Architectural Foundation’s Patron of Architecture Award on Sept. 25 for the key role he has played as executive director of the Baton Rouge Downtown Development District (DDD).

In this capacity, Rhorer has worked closely with the DDD Board of Directors, private sector partners and local government to revitalize Louisiana’s Capitol City, helping to attract more than $2.4 billion in investments over the last 20 years.

He has aggressively worked to strengthen and enhance downtown Baton Rouge’s infrastructure and position the area as the regional growth center of East Baton Rouge Parish.

Jesse Cannon, chairman of the Louisiana Architectural Foundation and Lisa Nice, president of the American Institute of Architects Baton Rouge Chapter, presented the award to Rhorer at the AIA Louisiana Design Conference Honor Awards ceremony held in Baton Rouge.

The Patron of Architecture Award recognizes non-architect individuals, corporations, organizations and groups whose good works have encouraged, fostered or promoted public understanding and appreciation of quality in Louisiana architecture.

Dewberry, a privately-held professional services firm, has named Atri Sen as program manager for the firm’s New Orleans office.

In his new role, Sen will oversee ongoing and future hazard mitigation projects in the state of Louisiana and lead the expansion of Dewberry’s services in the Gulf Coast region.

Sen has more than 10 years’ experience in functional and responsive project and program management involving multi-dimensional projects with local, state and federal clients across the nation.
