The Louisiana Asphalt Pavement Association had its annual convention June 2-5 at The Grand Marriott Resort in Point Clear, Ala.
The convention began with a welcome reception sponsored by Asphalt Products Unlimited Inc. and Akzo Nobel Surface Chemistry LLC.
LAPA President Bert Wilson, Barriere Construction Co. of New Orleans, opened the convention by welcoming everyone to the event.
Guest speakers during the convention included Larry Lemon, chairman of the National Asphalt Pavement Association; Phil Arena, materials engineer, Federal Highway Administration; Jay Hansen, vice president of government affairs, NAPA; Sam Cooper, Chris Abadie, Bill King and Luanna Cambass, all with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development; Mark Buncher, Asphalt Institute; Tone Garrett, Mississippi Asphalt Pavement Association; Mark Chenevert, pavement preservation engineer; Skip Paul, director, Louisiana Transportation Research Center; Steve Cumbaa, La. DOTD; and Mike Futrell, Baton Rouge City Parish Government.
Also included was the annual question and answer session. Moderating the session were Bert Wilson and Brian Buckel. Representing La. DOTD were Brian Buckel, Luanna Cambass, Sam Cooper, Chris Abadie, Bill King, Skip Paul, Mark Chenevert, Richard Savoie, Connie Standige and Steve Cumbaa.
After the Q & A session, La. DOTD Chief Engineer Richard Savoie discussed the “Current State of Affairs.”
Other festivities included a President’s Reception on Friday night and a Reception/Awards Dinner Saturday night, sponsored by Ergon and Lion Oil. The theme for Saturday was “Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler.”
The 2011 convention will be also be held at The Grand Marriott Resort in Point Clear.
