LeBonheur project to include 610,000-sq-ft facility
Skanska USA of Nashville will manage construction of the 610,000-sq-ft, 225-bed LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center project in Memphis.
Skanska reports it will include $145.9 million in its second quarter order bookings for the project in which it is a 100 percent shareholder. The construction phase began in February and completion is expected in 2010.
Founded in 1953, LeBonheur treats an estimated 140,000 children from 47 states and several countries. It is home to one of the nation’s 10 busiest pediatric emergency departments and hosts one of the largest pediatric brain tumor programs.
Johnson & Galyon breaks ground on UT Medical Center expansion
Johnson & Galyon of Knoxville, Tenn., broke ground on a $20 million expansion at The University of Tennessee Medical Center in late July.
The project was designed by BarberMcMurry Architects of Knoxville, Tenn.
For this expansion to take place, the main entrance to the medical center will be temporarily relocated during the construction phase. The existing endoscopy area will remain in use during construction and there will be a phased move to facilitate the renovation of the existing space.
The existing Outpatient Diagnostic area will also remain in use during construction and a temporary access way will be constructed to separate the area from the construction zone for patients and visitors.
The project should be concluded by the end of 2009.
Young Constructors visit Nissan jobsite
The Young Constructors, a group within Associated General Contractors of Tennessee, Middle Tennessee Branch, held its monthly networking event on June 12 at the Nissan Headquarters project.
Fifty members toured the Nissan Headquarters, a Skanska project. Nissan’s North American headquarters will include a building with 450,000 sq ft of office space and an adjacent four-level, 1,135-space parking garage with an attached fitness center.
Video conferencing centers and large, alternating atriums on each of the building’s nine main floors will encourage cross-functional collaboration among employees.
The building is designed to be environmentally sensitive, with features such as exterior sunshades to reduce building solar load and an interior lighting management system for energy savings.
