MDOT awards Wayne County bridge replacement project
The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) has awarded a bridge replacement project in Wayne County to Tanner Construction Company of Ellisville, Miss.
The $1.5 million project involves replacing the bridge south of Clara at Turkey Creek on State Highway 63.
The project will include constructing a new 241-ft-long bridge in a new alignment parallel to the existing bridge. Earthwork and paving will connect the new bridge with the existing Highway 63.
Once the new bridge and pavement are completed, traffic will be switched to the new alignment and crews will work to remove the old bridge material. Work on the project is scheduled to begin next month.
MDOT District Six engineer Steve Twedt said the bridge replacement project represents an ongoing effort to ensure the safety of bridges across the State of Mississippi.
Twedt said that federal funds are set aside each year to address the bridge replacement projects.
