| Tupelo cancer treatment facility
breaks new ground North Mississippi Hematology & Oncology Associates,
Ltd. Recently announced that construction has begun on a cancer treatment facility
that will provide 51, 000 sq. ft. of patient care space and state-of-the-art technology
for evaluation and treatment of patients during their stay. The center
will be located in Tupelo, Miss. Because the demand for hematology and
oncology services continues to grow nationwide, as well as in their service area,
the management of the Hematology & Oncology Associates saw a need for additional
space. They chose to move from their South Madison Street location on the Tupelo
Campus of the North Mississippi Medical Center to the former Food World Supermarket
on South Gloster Street. The new facility will be located less than
.25 mi. from the Medical Center. "The number of individuals touched
by cancer is ever increasing and we have outgrown our current facility,"
an oncologist from North Mississippi Hematology & Oncology Associates,Ltd
said. "With the recent addition of two oncologists, this new facility will
allow us to continue to provide exceptional patient care." When completed,
the former Food World Supermarket will be transformed into one of the largest
cancer care facilities in the Southeast, which will provide space for patients
and their families to receive outpatient cancer care in comfortable surroundings.
It will include 30 chemotherapy bays, 17 private patient rooms, four waiting areas
to accommodate at least 300 patients, an in-house pharmacy and a snack area. The
new location will also provide convenient access to additional medical venues.
North Mississippi Hematology & Oncology Associates have enlisted the
help of JBHM Architects to make the cancer treatment center a reality. The estimated
date of completion is July 2007. "We're excited about the opportunity
to work on this new facility," said Michael Grey Jones, AIA, partner of JBHM
Architects. "We know it will provide a comfortable and convenient place for
its patients to receive treatment, as well as room for growth in the future." U.S.
