Skyline Steel opens Iuka facility

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour officially opened the Skyline Steel Pipe Group facility near Yellow Creek Port in Tishomingo County, Mississippi, in August during a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The new $17-million state-of-the-art steel processing facility manufactures rolled and welded pipe.

The facility currently employs 40 workers with 60 percent being highly skilled metal trades positions. The company invested about $17 million in the facility to produce spiral welded steel pipe used primarily in heavy construction such as buildings, bridges and wharves.

Barbour said to a group of nearly 250 guests and employees, "I applaud the commitment of Skyline Steel to Tishomingo County, Northeast Mississippi and the state as a whole as the company brings this new manufacturing plant on-line."

Agencies and elected officials involved in assisting local officials included Governor Barbour, the Mississippi Development Authority, Tennessee Valley Authority, Yellow Creek Port Authority, Northeast Mississippi Planning & Development District, Appalachian Regional Commission, United States Senators Thad Cochran and Trent Lott, Congressman Roger Wicker, State Senators Travis Little and J. P. Wilemon, and State Representative Ricky Cummings.

Malouf receives Contractor of the Year Award

Malouf Construction recently received the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District Safety Plus 2005 Contractor of the Year Award.

The award is recognition for outstanding safety management during construction of the Batupan Bogue Watershed, Brown's Creek in Grenada County, Mississippi. Malouf was also awarded the Vicksburg District, Greenwood Area Engineer Office Safety Plus Award for large projects over $1.5 million dollars, for outstanding service and safety management from August 18, 2003, through Nov. 18, 2004.

The Corp recognized the team exhibited outstanding management and safety awareness, working 33,582 man-hours with ZERO Lost Time Accidents. The Corp stated that this commitment to safety is greatly appreciated by the Vicksburg District. The awards were presented to Malouf during the Greenwood Area Office's yearly Engineers Day.
