| Shreveport AGC installs officers
Mike Boggs, president of Boggs & Poole Contracting Group, Shreveport, La., was installed as 2008 president of the Shreveport Chapter-Associated General Contractors during the association’s annual installations in December.
Also installed as new officers were Kurt Dean, Integrity Inc., Shreveport, vice president, and Dan Fellows, Fellows Construction, Shreveport, secretary-treasurer.

The chapter’s installation was held Dec. 14 at the Petroleum Club of Shreveport. The Shreveport Chapter has been serving North Louisiana since 1925.
Brice Building Co. awarded $64 million Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium project
Brice Building Co.’s New Orleans office has been awarded a $64 million contract to construct the Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium’s new research facility in New Orleans.
The 150,000-sq-ft facility will be located on a 2-acre site between the LSU Health Sciences Center and Tulane University Health Sciences Center in downtown New Orleans.
Construction will begin in February 2008 and is expected to complete in 2010. Design services are being provided by New York-based RMJM Hillier Architects.
The mission of the LCRC, a joint venture between LSU and Tulane, is to discover and develop innovative cancer therapies that lead to clinical treatment programs. These programs will offer new opportunities for early detection, treatment and prevention of cancer.
The facility will create more than 300 jobs. Brice has previously completed work with both Tulane and LSU.
ABC Bayou Chapter installs officers
Harrah’s Hotel of New Orleans was the site for Associated Builders and Contractors Inc.’s Bayou Chapter officer installation on Jan. 11.
Dana Stumpf of Durr Heavy Construction and AMID/Metro dba Gentilly Landfill was named chairman of the Associated Builders and Contractors New Orleans/Bayou Chapter. She was sworn in at the annual officer installation ceremony by chapter attorney Phil Shuler of Chaffe McCall LP. Stumpf replaces outgoing chairman Jim Lewis of Landis Construction Co. LLC.
Also sworn in was the 2008 Executive Committee and the Board of Directors, which includes Past Chair Jim Lewis of Landis Construction Co. LLC; Chair Elect Joe Montagino of Sugarland Construction Management LLC; Vice Chair Rob Wooderson of Gibbs Construction Co. LLC, Secretary Andy Anderson of King Co. The ceremony also honored several members for their dedication over the past year.
Member of the Year honors were bestowed upon Frances Roemer of F.H. Myers Construction Corp. for her efforts in membership recruitment. Because of her hard work, the Bayou Chapter was recognized nationally with the Triple Crown Award, Membership Growth Award, and the Outstanding Member Retention in 2007.
State Senator-Elect Jack Donahue of DonahueFavret Contractors Inc .was awarded as Person of the Year for his efforts in making sure the construction industry is represented at the state government level.
CA-PAR Electric Inc. was recognized as the New Member Company of the Year for volunteering its time and resources to ABC committees, programs and the betterment or our organization.
Cory, Tucker & Larrowe Inc. was recognized as the Member Company of the Year for its outstanding participation with events and committees.
Durr acquires Circle E Materials
Durr Heavy Construction LLC of Harahan, La., recently announced that it has completed the successful acquisition of Circle E Contracting LLC in Tangipahoa Parish.
Circle E Contracting, located off Hwy 443 in Loranger, is a site preparation construction company that also operates dirt pits on the Northshore. The pits will operate under the new name, Circle E Materials LLC. The former Circle E staff of 35 employees will join over 100 Durr employees in Jefferson and St. Tammany parishes.
“We are so pleased to have the fine folks at Circle E join the Durr family,” says Freddy Yoder, president of Durr Heavy Construction, “and share our corporate culture that is family oriented and concerned with the health and safety of each and every employee.”
“We look forward to sharing our award-winning safety programs with the Circle E team and share best practices,” said Don Bonewitz, director of safety and human resources.
“Prior to the acquisition, benefits were not available to the members of the organization. We plan to offer a very good benefit package that includes health, 401K and vacation time,” Bonewitz said.
Circle E Materials LLC operates its Loranger Pit at 51370 Hwy. 443 and its second pit, known as the Zemurray Pit, at Hwy. 40 in the vicinity of Hwy. 445.
The pits will continue to supply dirt to Northshore customers, while supplementing Durr Heavy Construction’s Northshore Division, which primarily serves the parishes of Tangipahoa and St. Tammany.
