The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently named the contractor and architect of a $21.75 million Armed Forces Reserve Center project in Jonesboro, Ark.
W.G. Yates & Sons Construction Co. of Memphis, Tenn., and Cromwell Architects & Engineers of Little Rock won the design/build contract, according to a news release from W.G. Yates.
The project features a 76,000-sq.-ft. training building, a 24,000-sq.-ft. vehicle maintenance shop and a 3,500-sq.-ft. storage unit. The buildings will include administrative offices, a library, a learning center, weapons simulator and gym.
The architect will be "a contemporary design," according to the news release. The Corps of Engineers hopes the building becomes a landmark to "enhance public awareness of the Arkansas National Guard and Army Reserve."
The buildings will be split faced masonry units with standing metal seam roofing with complementing brick colors. The buildings also will include aluminum entrance canopies, pre-finished metal eaves and gables to match the roof.
The structures also will comply with the Department of Defense antiterrorism force protection construction as well as Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design requirements.
Although construction won't start this year, the project is expected to be completed by summer 2011.
