Fayetteville engineering firm awarded for Springdale lift station
The Fayetteville engineering firm of McGoodwin Williams & Yates Inc. has been honored by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Arkansas for the firm’s design of the Benton Farm Lift Station completed in November 2005 for the City of Springdale, Ark.
The firm received an Engineering Excellence Honor Award, an annual award recognizing the “Fostering of Excellence in Engineering Design in Arkansas.” The award process measures both innovative design and sustainable engineering. The lift station resembles a dairy barn, complete with red walls, metal roof and cupola with a rooster weather vane.
“Our concept was to create a lift station that would blend as seamlessly as possible with the surrounding agricultural properties, while also providing a cost-efficient municipal wastewater service to an area of projected high growth,” said Brad Hammond, president of McGoodwin Williams & Yates. “By taking into consideration the aesthetics of the highly visible lift station, this project sets an example of how such structures can be completed economically and still address the desires of the community,” Hammond said.
The $2 million Benton Farm Lift Station was designed to serve the northwest portion of Springdale and much of the city of Lowell for more than 20 years, as well as provide aesthetic benefits that would complement property values of the area.
