| Delta Asphalt, Gilbert Central
win NAPA quality awards
The National Asphalt Paving Association (NAPA)
recently announced that Delta Asphalt of Paragould, Ark., and Gilbert Central
Corp. of Little Rock, Ark., were recent winners of its 2004 Quality in Construction
Award for excellence in construction. The presentations were made at the
association's 50th Annual Convention in Hawaii. The Quality in Construction Awards
recognize Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) pavements of excellence. "NAPA selects
the award recipients using a known set of standards that have been shown to give
good results," said Charles F. Potts, chairman of the NAPA Board of Directors.
"This award demonstrates the high quality of work that the HMA industry is
achieving." Delta Asphalt of Arkansas was recognized for the rubblizing
and overlay of 9 mi. of I-55 in Mississippi County. It also had to remove and
replace two structures at the center of each lane. Delta Asphalt used double-shift
paving to complete the project within 300 days, producing a smooth and high-quality
HMA pavement. Gilbert Central Corp. was recognized for the rehabilitation
of 11 mi. of Highway 25. To meet the tight schedule, the company used two HMA
plants to allow two crews to pave simultaneously. It earned incentive payments
on the project for early completion, the quality of the asphalt mix and ride smoothness
of the road. |
