B.L. Harbert International completes the first building at Auburn Research Park
B.L. Harbert International LLC completed Building One of the Auburn Research Park located on the campus of Auburn University. The three-story, 44,000-sq-ft facility is intended for small to large technology companies wishing to affiliate with and be located on the campus of a major research university. Northrop Grumman is the building’s first tenant and has located one of the corporation’s new National Work Force Centers at the facility.
The building was designed to achieve LEED Certification. B.L. Harbert’s experience in green building allowed the team to maximize the design’s potential elevating the facility’s status to qualify for LEED Gold Certification. B.L. Harbert worked to create a safe working environment for everyone on site and logged over 40,000 man-hours without a lost time accident.
Design consultants for the project were Gresham Smith and Partners, Lane Bishop York Delahay Inc., Jackson Renfro & Associates Inc. and Edmonds Engineering Inc.
Birmingham dealer to carry new line of compact equipment
B & G Equipment and Supply of Birmingham, Ala., a distributor of construction equipment and supplies in the Southeast, recently signed an agreement adding the new Wacker Neuson line of compact construction equipment to its product list.
According to Operations Manager, Central Region, David Kirkland, “Wacker equipment has been one of the most recognizable names in construction for many years and we are proud to carry a product that adds such value to our operation.”
B & G Equipment and Supply has been providing top-of-the-line service to its clients in the construction industry since 1997.
The company has steadily grown to servicing customers throughout the southeastern U.S. from its four locations in Birmingham, Atlanta, Nashville and Orlando. B & G Equipment and Supply will carry the complete compact line of Wacker Neuson construction equipment.
Hoar Program Management to oversee Maritime Museum construction
Mobile, Ala., hired Hoar Program Management recently to oversee construction of the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico, a $36 million public-private project that serves as the centerpiece of Mobile Landing, the city’s downtown riverfront development.
The Mobile City Council unanimously approved the contract with Hoar Program Management following a competitive selection process in 2008.
“This is going to be a wonderful addition to our city. We look forward to the tourism dollars it will bring and for this project to get going,” Council President Reggie Copeland said.
Hoar Program Management is a division of Hoar Construction, LLC of Birmingham, AL.
The City of Mobile is planning to break ground on the Maritime Museum in spring 2009. Based on an 18-20month construction schedule, the Maritime Museum is currently slated to open in late2010.
The National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico will be the first museum dedicated to presenting the maritime heritage and culture of the Gulf Coast, and only the third maritime museum in the world to primarily feature hands-on, interactive exhibits rather than maritime artifacts.
The Maritime Museum’s 90,000-sq-ft structure is shaped liked a ship headed into Mobile Bay.
Jim Parker Building gets Jacksonville stadium project
Jim Parker Building Co. Inc. of Auburn, Ala., has been awarded the $29 million contract for the stadium addition and living units at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala.
The stadium addition will expand to the existing stadium by 5,000-plus seats, adding new press box areas and luxury box suites. Additional parking area and RV parking will also be added for the stadium patron’s use. The 18-month contract will provide a new 180,000-plus-sq-ft student dormitory.
B&G Equipment and Supply holds open house in Birmingham
B&G Equipment and Supply, an equipment rental provider in the Southeast, held an open house on Nov. 13 to celebrate its new facility at 2748 Mary Taylor Road in Birmingham, Ala.
“We’re extremely pleased with our new store and we’re excited to have more than 300 of our customers come out and see how this modern facility will allow us to better serve them,” said Operations Manager David Kirkland.
Construction of the 26,000-sq-ft expansion began in February 2008 and was completed in October.
The new facility has tripled B&G Equipment and Supply’s warehousing and retail space, while enabling its service facility to double in size.
A loading dock has also been added to grant easier access for getting supplies in and out. Kirkland said the addition will be a valuable asset for accommodating the growing needs of its client base.
The event included a complimentary lunch and manufacturer representatives from Wacker Neuson, JLG, Makita, Milwaukee, Shindaiwa, Dewalt, Bosch, and Thompson Pump performed product demonstrations and answered questions regarding equipment.
B&G Equipment and Supply is a multi-location renter and seller of top-of-the-line equipment and construction supplies.
As the successor organization to Brasfield & Gorrie’s original equipment shop, B&G Equipment and Supply formally organized in 1997.
