NAWIC - Greater Birmingham Chapter installs 2008-2009 Officers

The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Greater Birmingham Chapter installed its 2008-2009 officers on Sept. 15 at a luncheon hosted by Gary C. Wyatt General Contractor LLC.

Officers include: Donna Campbell (Highlands Publication), board member; Rhonda Grounds (M.J. Harris Inc.), board member; Ginger Thompson, Gary C. Wyatt General Contractor LLC), president; Deborah Williams (M.J. Harris Inc.), board member; Heather Green (Turner Batson), secretary; Heidi Hutter (Sandell Manufacturing), board member; Amanda Smith (M.J. Harris Inc.), treasurer; Alecia Melvin (M.J. Harris Inc.), board member; Seneca Green (Brasfield & Gorrie LLC), vice president; Stacy Randle (Simpson Commercial Contracting), board member.

NAWIC, an international non-profit organization, has grown to a membership of more than 5,000 women with more than 179 chapters. In its 51 years of service to its members, NAWIC has advanced the causes of all women in construction whose careers range from business ownership to the skilled trades. With almost 900,000 women working in construction today, the industry is becoming more accepting of their non-traditional roles.

Hudson Architecture opens in Birmingham

Hudson Architecture LLC announced recently that it has opened a studio in Birmingham, Ala.

“The focus of the firm is to provide design that is beautiful, timeless and responsible,” says John Hudson, principal architect and owner.

Hudson has a broad residential portfolio, including the first LEED for Homes construction project in Alabama. LEED for Homes is a national standard for sustainable or “green” residential building.

Current projects include the renovation of the law offices of Balch and Bingham at the Alabama Power Building in Birmingham, Ala. Hudson is also working on a new sanctuary and classroom facility for a church in Vestavia, Ala., and a Live/Work project outside of Atlanta, Ga.

“I look for solutions that are both unique and classic. There are design opportunities to balance time-tested building practices with modern innovations,” says Hudson.

Hudson’s project experience includes multi-family development and complex commercial projects. Hudson is a registered architect in Alabama and North Carolina and a member of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.
