| Montgomery schools build for the future
Heery International was selected by Montgomery, Ala.-based TCU Consulting LLC to serve as associate program manager for the $100 million Montgomery Public Schools building program.
Heery’s primary responsibility will be design phase management, cost control and document reviews.
“Montgomery is experiencing tremendous growth,” says Heery Program Director Dennis LaGatta. “Plans are underway for six new facilities. Those plans include a high school, two middle schools and three elementary schools.”
LaGatta says four elementary schools are slated for renovation.
“Two of the buildings to be renovated are historically significant,” LaGatta says. “We’ll be evaluating those facilities carefully to determine the best method for incorporating much needed upgrades.”
Heery International is a 1,000-person architecture, interior design, engineering, facility management, program management and construction management firm with annual revenues of more than $400 million.
Grand Hotel Resort renovations completed
Contractors at The Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Ala., recently completed renovating the interior and exterior spaces of the resort.
With significant damage from Hurricane Katrina, the facility was in desperate need of repair. Every space on the ground level of the hotel was destroyed. In many cases damaged or dated infrastructure was revealed, requiring replacement of finishes, as well as replacement and repair of structural flooring systems, new electrical and mechanical systems.
As a result, the building was brought up to code in many aspects where feasible.
Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood Inc. of Montgomery, Ala., used the opportunity to >> bring back the face of an historic gathering place with an improved image and new features. Great care was taken to recover the existing style both inside and outside, as well as make additions or improvements based on the needs as they were prior to the storm. New furnishings, fabrics and draperies were provided and the ambiance of the interior space was renewed.
Goodwyn Mills & Cawood is an architectural and engineering firm with offices in Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile and Andalusia, Ala., as well as Crestview, Fla.
