Brasfield & Gorrie completes Thompson Tractor facility

Brasfield & Gorrie recently completed Thompson Tractor Co.'s Alabaster Branch Facility in Alabaster, Ala. More than 200 people attended the barbeque luncheon, including members of the building team and representatives of Thompson Tractor.

The new facility, located in the Shelby West Industrial Park off Interstate 65, is a service and retail store for Thompson Tractor that consists of a service building with a parts department, a rental store and a wash pit. In addition to Brasfield & Gorrie as the general contractor, the project team also included Kahn South of Birmingham as architect and interior designer.

SAKAI appoints Coastal Machinery as Alabama, Alabama dealer

SAKAI America of Adairsville, Ga., recently appointed Coastal Machinery Co. as an authorized dealer in Alabama and Florida.

SAKAI offers a full line of vibratory soil and asphalt compactors, static rollers, soil stabilizers and seven new 4000VPM rollers designed for Superpave and perpetual pavements. Innovators in compaction equipment for more than 80 years, Sakai is also the first to offer a track-driven soil compactor for steep slope applications.

Archetype, Quake Global partner to develop dual-mode GSM-Satellite modem

Archetype Inc. of Birmingham, Ala., and Quake Global recently announced a strategic alliance to develop a new family of mobile wireless data modems utilizing both satellite and cellular phone networks for GPS-based vehicle tracking.

Archetype will integrate Quake Global's satellite data modems with its new-generation, low-cost StarLert GPS/GSM tracking devices to provide flexible and cost-effective solutions for wide-area remote asset tracking and monitoring applications. The dual-mode products will be marketed by Archetype through its distribution channels.

Construction begins on Orange Beach mixed-used project

Construction has begun on the Baker Barrios Architects-designed Riverwalk, a $143 million mixed-use development located on the Gulf of Mexico in Orange Beach, Ala. Baker Barrios Architects is providing architecture, master site planning, interior architecture and construction administration for the project.

The two-phase development totals 1.55 million sq. ft. and consists of a 500,000-sq.-ft. contemporary and Mediterranean-style hotel/condominium, more than 300,000 sq. ft. of retail space and a 68,000-sq.-ft. convention center.

Hoar Construction tops out Coosa Valley Medical Center

Hoar Construction has topped out the new $20 million replacement facility at Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga, Ala. Known as the West Wing Project, the new facility will replace 103 existing beds and is scheduled for completion in spring 2007.

This new four-story medical facility will be approximately 120,000 sq. ft. and will contain more than 90 patient rooms - 70 general healthcare beds, 10 intensive care beds and 10 obstetric beds. It will include a medical/surgical area, both pre- and post-surgery areas, an endoscopy and diagnostic imaging center, food service and cafeteria, ambulance entrance, materials management and support spaces.
