| Golden & Associates renovates
Birmingham Water Works building as new headquarters
Renovation was
recently completed at 2212 First Ave. South in Birmingham, Ala., to be Golden
& Associates Construction's new headquarters. Golden & Associates
moved into the two-story, 10,000-sq.-ft. building in August. Ty Cole of Giattina
Fisher Aycock of Birmingham was the project architect. Golden & Associates
was one of the first companies to move into the historical area and President
Geoff Golden wanted to stay in the area because of its appeal and to be supportive
of the downtown renaissance. The company has renovated many of the other
downtown historical buildings, including the old Chamber of Commerce building,
which is now Jemison Flats lofts and commercial space; the AC Legg Spice Company
Building, which is now luxury lofts; the Eubanks Building, which is now a private
residence and office; and the Bebco Building, which is the current headquarters
for the company. Golden founded the company in late 1997 and currently has
more than 40 employees. Brasfield & Gorrie,
Bailey Harris-Construction renovate East Alabama Medical Center Brasfield
& Gorrie Construction of Birmingham, Ala., recently began construction of
the Phase 4 additions and renovations at East Alabama Medical Center. The
expansion project will add four floors to the existing bed tower and a two- story
addition to its west side, along with several renovation projects for a total
of 197,000 sq. ft. The project team consists of Richard L. Miller of Nashville,
Architect; and the joint venture partnership of Brasfield & Gorrie and Bailey
Harris-Construction Co. as the general contractor. The construction cost is about
$42 million. Brasfield & Gorrie is a regional general contractor and
a Forbes 500 company, serving the southeast from offices in Birmingham, Atlanta,
Nashville, Orlando and Raleigh. Construction begins
on UAB Heart & Vascular Center M. J. Harris Inc. of Birmingham,
Ala., was recently awarded the University of Alabama at Birmingham North Pavilion
Heart and Vascular Center Fit-Out project. The 55,000-sq.-ft. general works fit-out
will allow for 12 procedure rooms, as well as preparation, holding and recovery
areas. The project is on a schedule to be completed in nine months. The
M. J. Harris project team will include Scott Blake, senior project manager; David
Abbitt, project manager; Ross Layman, superintendent; and Rett Sheppard, superintendent.
Clay County area to get new health and wellness
center Brasfield & Gorrie Construction of Birmingham, Ala., recently
broke ground on the new Health and Wellness Center for Clay County Healthcare
Authority. The new 27,700-sq.-ft. facility will house a new physical and occupational
therapy suite, aerobic center, indoor pool and indoor and outdoor walking tracks.
The official groundbreaking was held in May. The project team consists
of Clay County Healthcare Authority, owner; Inkana Development, owner's representative;
Fuqua Osborn Architect; Tucker-Jones Engineering, structural engineer; Hays Cheatwood
Cornelius Inc., electrical engineering; and CHB Mechanical Engineer and Dixie
Consulting and Contracting Survey. The project should be completed in January.
