St. Vincent's South Tower breaks ground in Birmingham

Brasfield & Gorrie of Birmingham, Ala., recently broke ground on the $43 million South Tower addition at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.

The six-story facility's ground floor will serve as the hospital's new, larger Emergency Department, offering patients easier access. The 90-bed patient tower will measure 210,000 sq. ft. Construction began in December and will be completed in February 2007.

Earl Swennson and Associates of Nashville, Tenn., is the project architect.

In October, the firm completed construction on the North Tower. The South Tower will carry a theme very similar to the North Tower and will be made of concrete with a structural slab.

Brasfield & Gorrie is a regional general contractor and a Forbes 500 company, serving the Southeast from offices in Birmingham, Atlanta, Nashville, Orlando and Raleigh.
