| VOA selected to design IOS
facility at Maxwell AFB
The Orlando, Fla., office of VOA Associates
Inc. recently announced that it will provide design-build services for a $13.3
million Integrated Operational Support (IOS) Facility at Maxwell Air Force Base
in Montgomery, Ala. VOA is designer of record, providing full architectural/construction
administration services, with Bear Bros. Inc. of Montgomery serving as contractor
and design-build partner. The two-story, 53,580-sq.-ft. facility is scheduled
for completion in April 2006. VOA's Ted G. Fery, Southern Region, said
the project involves design and construction of office and administration space
to house the Integrated Customer Support Activities supporting DoD communication
organizations, including activities such as a System Support Center Command Suite,
Air Force Network Operations Center, numerous Base Assistance Teams and various
security monitoring, remote system administration and contingency system remediation
support. "Our objective with this facility is to provide a secure
office environment that will meet secret open storage requirements," Fery
said. "Security requirements include Sensitive Compartmented Information
Facility (SCIF) located throughout the building, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS),
secure voice and data communications systems and monitored door lock systems." Fery
said the architectural design of the building is of an aesthetic nature and quality
benefiting a modern corporate office building, with central core support spaces
and circulation surrounded by open floor areas extending to the exterior walls.
Physical character features include a concrete foundation and floor slab with
structural steel frame, architectural precast well panels and raised computer
floor system. The project also involves exterior improvements for parking,
sidewalks, walkways and all necessary support utility upgrades. |
