Batson-Cook to build The Indies in Gulf Shores

Batson-Cook recently signed an $11 million contract to build The Indies condominiums in Gulf Shores. The 68-unit facility is located in a private community adjacent to Fort Morgan State Park and will feature one, two and three bedroom units.

Each residence in the 130,000-square-foot building will include balconies, many with oceanfront views.

"Skelton Development and Gary B. Coursey Architects, both of Atlanta, provide us with a top-notch team," said Don McGuire, operations vice president for Batson-Cook.

The project will also feature a rooftop terrace, pool, business center and fitness center. The Indies will provide residents 38 spaces in the lower level parking.

Over the last decade, the general contractor has gained a solid reputation for building condominiums and mixed-use structures. With multiple condominium projects currently underway in Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida, Batson-Cook has positioned itself to meet the increased demands of the residential market in Alabama as well.

Batson-Cook, founded in 1915, specializes in providing commercial general contracting, preconstruction, construction management, and design-build services to a wide range of clients.

Griffin Electric completes Shades Valley complex

Wayne J. Griffin Electric Inc. of Birmingham, Ala., recently completed the electrical installation work for Birmingham's Shades Valley Complex.

The project consisted of four buildings that house facilities for the Jefferson County Environmental Services Department. The entire project totaled more than 30,000 sq. ft. in new construction and includes facilities for training, instruments, survey inspection and material storage.

In all four buildings, the Griffin Electric team provided the lighting and power services. In addition, the team installed floor boxes and audio/visual conduit rough-ins at the training facility and fire alarm and cable tray systems at the instruments and survey inspection facilities.

"It's always a welcomed challenge to perform work on several buildings that must be completed simultaneously," said Wayne J. Griffin, President of Griffin Electric. "The Griffin Electric team is poised to provide any extra efforts that are necessary to ensure a project is completed in its entirety within the specified timeframe."

General contractor Doster Construction Company, Inc., engineering design firm Engineering Service Associates, Inc. and electrical engineer, Sajjadieh Engineering Group, all of Birmingham, also worked on the project.
