Top Contractors of 2009

List spotlights major players in five-state area

The South Central region's largest 130 contractors had about $1 billion more regional revenue than the previous year, with about $16.2 billion in revenue compared to $15.2 billion in last year’s list, according to data compiled by South Central Construction magazine.

  • In the magazine's Top 130 Contractors list, general contractors with a permanent office in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi or Tennessee are ranked by their 2008 regional revenue. Breakout rankings arrange contractors by state and type of construction.

    The region's largest contractor - The Yates Cos. Inc. of Philadelphia, Miss. - is also ranked as the largest general building contractor and the largest manufacturing contractor.

    Brasfield & Gorrie of Birmingham, Ala., is the second largest building contractor, followed by Roy Anderson Holding Corp. of Gulfport, Miss.; Flintco Inc. of Memphis, Tenn.; and CDI Contractors of Little Rock, Ark.

    In the transportation market, Boh Bros. Construction Co. LLC of New Orleans tops the list, followed by Gilchrist Construction Co. LLC of Alexandria, La.; James Construction Group LLC of Baton Rouge; Traylor Bros. Inc. of Golden Meadow, La.; and Diamond B Construction Co. Inc. of Alexandria, La.

    The public works market is lead by Max Foote Construction Co. of Mandeville, La.; followed by Brasfield & Gorrie LLC; Boh Bros. Construction Co.; Crossland Construction Co. Inc. of Rogers, Ark.; and Durr Heavy Construction, LLC of Harahan, La.
