Top 100 Design Firms

Design firms grow to meet increasing market demand

The five-state South Central region’s second annual Top 100 Design Firms showcases a diverse mix of architects and engineers working in a variety of markets.

The data was compiled by South Central Construction magazine.

In the magazine’s Top 100 Design Firms ranking, architects and engineers with a permanent office in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi or Tennessee are ranked by their number of design professionals based in the region.

The largest designer to make the list is, for the second year, The Shaw Group of Baton Rouge, La., followed by Smith Seckman Reid Inc. of Nashville, Tenn.; Gresham, Smith & Partners of Nashville; Wink Cos. LLC of Baton Rouge; and Volkert & Assocates Inc. of Mobile, Ala.

Following the Top 100, state breakouts rank design firms in each of the five states.

To develop the ranking, South Central Construction e-mailed surveys to an exhaustive database of companies identified as potential top design firms.

Sources used to create the database included McGraw-Hill Construction Dodge, various AIA and engineering associations, economic development agencies, and back issues of Engineering News-Record and South Central Construction.

Every effort was made to obtain accurate and complete company information, and the information was verified with the designers.
