five-state area The South Central region's largest contractors had about
$15.2 billion in regional revenue and more than $33.8 billion in total revenue,
according to data compiled by South Central Construction magazine.
In the magazine's
Top 160 Contractors list, general contractors with a permanent office in Alabama,
Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee are ranked by their 2006 regional
revenue. Breakout rankings arrange contractors by state and type of construction. The
region's largest contractor - The Shaw Group of Baton Rouge, La. - is also ranked
as the second largest builder and second large industrial contractor in the region. The
Yates Cos. Inc. of Philadelphia, Miss., is the area's largest builder, followed
by The Shaw Group; Roy Anderson Corp. of Gulfport, Miss.; Brasfield & Gorrie
LLC of Birmingham, Ala.; and Turner Universal Construction Co. of Brentwood, Tenn.
In the transportation market, Boh Bros. Construction Co. LLC of New Orleans
tops the list, followed by James Construction Group LLC of Baton Rouge; Barriere
Construction Co. LLC of New Orleans; Gilchrist Construction Co. LLC of Alexandria,
La.; and Bell & Associates Construction LP of Brentwood, Tenn. Leading
in the industrial market is Turner Industries Group LLC of Baton Rouge; followed
by The Shaw Group; Performance Contractors Inc. of Baton Rouge; The Yates Cos.;
and BE&K Inc. of Birmingham, Ala. The public works market is lead by
Brasfield & Gorrie; M. R. Pittman Group LLC of Harahan, La.; The Shaw Group
Inc.; Max Foote Construction Co. Inc. of Mandeville, La.; and B.L. Harbert International
