South Central Construction's "Best of 2005" project awards voting was held Sept. 20 and 29 winners were declared, with one awarded the highest honor.
The Best of 2005 Judges Award in Construction will be given to Blaine Construction of Knoxville, Tenn., for the construction of the Spallation Neutron Source Facility, Oak Ridge, Tenn.
This year's winners were chosen from 43 nominations in 10 construction categories and one design category. Nominations were accepted from the construction and design industries, at large.
Official recognition of the winners will occur during a Dec. 1 awards luncheon at The Peabody in Memphis.
Official sponsors of the event are Gate Precast of Monroeville, Ala., and Sellers Photo of Huntsville, Ala.
Voting for the Best of 2005 was conducted at Coletta's Italian Restaurant in Memphis by the following judges: Larry Cockerham, estimator, Ripley, Miss; Anita Haines, Pyramid Electric Inc. of Memphis; Jim Lutz, Department of Art, University of Memphis; Danny Moeschle, Flintco Inc. of Memphis; Ben Shelton, Standard Construction Co. Inc. of Germantown, Tenn.; and Mark Zellner, Zellner Construction Co. Inc. of Memphis.
Winning projects were determined as follows:
* Best of 2005 Judges' Award in Construction - One project determined by the judges, following a discussion, to be the best of all entries
* Best project in a category: The project with the highest score in categories with three or more nominations
* Award of Excellence - All projects averaging 4.0 and above (out of 5)
* Award of Merit - All projects averaging 3.5 to 4.0 (out of 5)
