Golden & Associates Construction to build real estate office in Homewood

Golden & Associates Construction was recently awarded the contract for LAH Real Estate's new office in downtown Homewood, Ala.

The new brick and hand-rubbed stucco building will feature about 6,000 sq. ft. of office space spanning more than two floors.

Interior features will include a stained concrete floor, open office and reception areas with 22 foot high ceilings, and a high-tech conference room. A slate roof will top the new building's exterior, which will complement downtown Homewood's Main Street charm.

Giattina Fisher Aycock is the project architect.

Demolition began in September on LAH's old office building to make way for the new building's construction. The project will be finished in the spring.

Golden & Associates Construction's President Geoff Golden said, "LAH Real Estate is the leader in the residential real estate market in Birmingham and we look forward to building their new Homewood branch office building. This new building will be an attractive addition to downtown Homewood and an asset to LAH's operation."

Past Golden & Associates Construction projects in the Homewood area include Hall Kent Elementary, Shaia's, West Homewood Park and Laureate Capital Mortgage.

Healthcare construction increases for Hoar Construction

Working with design partner Gresham Smith & Partners, Hoar Construction of Birmingham, Ala., completed the Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center in July. The center is owned by Owensboro Medical Health System in Owensboro, Ky.

The new addition also houses a research center that will explore tobacco-produced cancer medicines. The research center is affiliated with the University of Louisville's James Graham Brown Cancer Center.

Another recent healthcare project completed by Hoar Construction was at Fannin Regional Hospital in Blue Ridge, Ga. Significant population increases and an aging facility were the motivating factors driving the additions and upgrades at this facility.

Hoar Construction worked with the hospital to add surgery rooms and ICU beds. Two operating rooms with C-section procedure capabilities were added along with the necessary pre-op and recovery spaces to support the rooms.

The ICU was upgraded and increased from two beds to six, two of which are equipped with negative pressure to contain high impact airborne contaminants. In addition, Hoar Construction added 16 med/surgery rooms and completed an extensive infrastructure upgrade of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and life safety systems.
