Wellmont-Hancock County Hospital, Sneedville, Tenn.

The project at Wellmont-Hancock County Hospital in Sneedville, Tenn., included a new 20,000-sq.-ft., 10-bed acute care hospital with a construction cost of $4,627,881. The Early Release Package work, which included site work, structural steel and concrete, began in April 2004.

The remainder of the project was released for construction in August 2004 and completed in March for a total construction duration of 10.5 months.

The new facility included two private patient rooms and four semi-private rooms, administration suite, staff locker rooms, hydrotherapy and physical therapy rooms, RAD room, future CT room, clinical lab, six ER bed suites, three outpatient ER rooms, snack/vending area, support services areas and helipad.

The facility is owned by Hancock County and operated by Wellmont Health Systems.

The underground utilities for the project, including natural gas and domestic water, required that the new utilities be installed across existing State Highway 33.

The new facility is constructed of 86 tons of structural steel, 21,000 sq. ft. of metal roof deck and 551 cu. yds. of concrete. The exterior consists of 12,500 sq. ft. of exterior insulation finish system, a masonry veneer wainscot consisting of 4,500 brick, 18 Kawneer Tri-Fab 1-in. flush glazed in aluminum storefront and six Kawneer aluminum operable windows.

The interior was designed through a joint effort by the architect and owner's interior design team.
